Melody Ekbatani

Aeri is a preventative care concept that rethinks how Type 2 diabetes can be managed through emerging technologies. The project was created during the Parsons x University of Arizona 24-hour AI Hackathon.

Many diabetes management systems today focus primarily on reporting data. Continuous glucose monitors generate a steady stream of readings, yet individuals must still interpret the information, recognize patterns, and decide how to respond throughout the day. However, managing this information creates a significant cognitive load on users.

Aeri proposes a more anticipatory approach. The system combines continuous biosensing, predictive AI, and an augmented reality interface delivered through a smart contact lens. By identifying shifts earlier, the system surfaces timely insights that help users respond before issues intensify.

The experience is structured around four connected components: live interventions, daily overviews, metric breakdowns, and user controls. Together, they make health insights clearer, more timely, and easier to act on. The project explores a future where diabetes care becomes more preventative, supporting everyday decisions through guidance that appears naturally within the user’s environment.
Axsphere

Lucy Trepanier

Axsphere helps people show up with confidence by rethinking how people choose where to go. Research revealed a clear gap that accessibility information is often invisible, unverified, or too vague to be useful. Axsphere closes that gap by letting users filter spaces by atmosphere and accessibility needs, preview real conditions before arriving, and contribute live crowd and noise data for others. Features like text-to-speech, alt text, colorblind-friendly visuals, and adjustable audio controls make the experience comfortable for everyone.
Butterflies

Riya Shrestha

When I received this topic, I realized I hadn’t seen a butterfly in ages. It had become a distant memory. This made me want to explore the connection between butterflies and remembrance, and the way we search for meaning within our memories.

The overall design is symmetric, taking direct inspiration from the natural symmetry of a butterfly’s wings. To evoke the feeling of trying to recall something, the images are kept intentionally hazy and only reveal themselves on hover, much like how a memory sharpens the moment you focus on it.

I also wanted to capture something of the butterfly’s own perspective. As a playful interaction, I added a Butterfly Vision mode that shifts the color palette to simulate how butterflies perceive the world, through ultraviolet light. Throughout the design, I incorporated butterfly-inspired iconography and wove in the Are.na logo as a subtle visual nod. Finally, the dialog backgrounds are deliberately blurred, meant to feel as thin and delicate as a butterfly’s wing.
Decoded Lines

Sophia Bae

Politics moves extremely fast, especially on social media. Fully understanding it means leaving the conversation entirely. You may see a term, leave the app to search for its definition, lose your place, come back, and find three more terms you don’t recognize. Then repeat, and forget what you were even reading!

Decoded Lines is a field guide built for that problem. It’s a simulated social feed where glossary terms open inline, right beneath the post that uses them. There are no new tabs, meaning no lost context.

Every definition is intentionally neutral, because the goal of this isn’t to tell you how to think about American politics. It is to make sure you have the language/tools/context to form an opinion yourself.
Echo

Kimaya Sarin

Echo is a social music events platform designed to help people discover events through the people they trust most, their friends.

Most event platforms work like a database. They show you everything, personalize nothing, and leave you scrolling through hundreds of listings with no relevance to your taste or social life. Music is communal by nature. Echo was designed to match that.

At its core is a social-first experience where you can see what friends are attending, follow artists and venues you love, and receive bespoke recommendations based on your listening history, past attendance, and social connections. The platform brings together the best events, DJs, concerts, festivals, and late nights your city has to offer, filtered through a social layer that makes discovery feel less like a search and more like a conversation with people who know your taste.

The project began with problem discovery and user interviews with people who regularly attend events. Three consistent themes emerged: the need for personalization, the importance of social context, and the frustration of jumping between fragmented platforms. From sketching and lo-fi prototyping through to testing, brand identity, and high-fidelity prototypes, every decision was grounded in those insights.

The result is a platform that puts community and culture at its core, where the best recommendation you will ever get is finding out your friends are already going.
Eyerest Reminder

Soko Mungunsukh

Eyerest Reminder is a Chrome browser extension that helps screen-heavy users protect their eyes by reminding them a regular break of 1 minute once in every 30 or 60 min based on user’s choice.

The problem: Most people know they should rest their eyes, but forget to do it. This extension makes it harder to ignore, because a big sheep grows and takes over every open tab making the user impossible to work unless they click “Cancel” which terminates every active flow.
F/ckts Anthology

Evgenii Astapov

F/ckts Anthology is a web-based editorial project that brings together three critical texts. The project examines how design is shaped by labor conditions, ideology, and professional power structures. It argues that design is never an isolated cultural practice, but something produced within larger systems of control, value, and interest.

Rather than treating the readings as separate essays, the anthology frames them as parts of a shared argument. Together, they show that design does not stand outside power, but is always formed by economic structures, political interests, cultural narratives, and professional gatekeeping. Every visual decision, every claim of clarity, and every formal system carries the conditions of its own production.

This position is reflected in the visual language of the project. Sharp and simple visual forms, pixel elements, bright colors, and the harsh contrast of deep almost flat black and white create a deliberately digital and confrontational atmosphere. The key image, treated with an ASCII effect, shows a group of figures attempting to enter a territory. Its meaning shifts depending on the viewer’s position after reading: it can suggest intrusion and threat, or an attempt to break through toward hidden truth. The project uses this instability to show that perception is never neutral. Text shapes interpretation, and design becomes part of that process.
GutCheck

Michael French

GutCheck is an extension for Google Chrome that is inserted directly into the Amazon interface. As such, many of the styles are pulled directly from Amazon, or modified slightly to fit the extension’s design system. This includes the extension’s typeface, Amazon Ember, icons, and colors. The project has three main files. The CSS file modifies Amazon’s styles and creates any new styles needed for the extension. The Javascript file contains the core functionality of the extension. The JSON file contains the setup information for the Chrome Extension.
Iris

Zarah Yaqub

Iris is a 24-hour hackathon project that reimagines how artificial intelligence can live beyond the phone and become part of everyday life through smart glasses. Developed during the 2026 AI Startup Design Hackathon, the project was created by a team of two product designers from Parsons School of Design and two business strategists from the University of Arizona. The team began with a music-focused app idea, then reframed the challenge around a bigger question: what if intelligence could exist around the user instead of inside a screen?

The result was Iris, an agentic AI platform designed to assist proactively and contextually. Rather than waiting for prompts like a traditional chatbot, Iris learns how a person lives, builds context over time, and offers help when it is most useful. It is meant to reduce the constant friction of switching between apps, checking phones, and manually coordinating daily tasks.

Iris is built specifically for smart glasses because they provide continuous access to the user’s visual environment while keeping interactions hands-free. The concept was demonstrated through scenarios such as airport navigation, real-time workout tracking, and contextual alerts. The interface is organized to keep the center of vision clear, with relevant information appearing only where needed. It also adapts contrast and opacity to preserve readability in different environments. Overall, Iris presents a vision of AI as an ambient, supportive layer woven into daily life rather than a tool that must be repeatedly summoned.
Mixed Signals

Amanda Guo

A tool to help you design unique cocktail recipes based on mood, taste palate, and intensity.

Cocktails are incredibly delicious, but can get increasingly expensive. I’m beginning to save money by experimenting with cocktail recipes at home, but a lot of the time I have no clue what I’m doing and what ingredients work well with what base drinks. On many occasions, I spend a long time googling recipes that look like they may taste bad to me. I wonder if there is a way to help me create cocktail recipes that fit my taste, and my taste only.

The visual direction takes inspiration from physical menu designs. I prioritized clean and structured typography, and stepped away from heavy imageries as I don’t want detailed photography to limit the way users imagines what the drink might look like. Instead, I created a series of cocktail family illustrations that subtle suggest what glass might be the best for the cocktail.
neuk

Sooim Kang

neuk is a platform for booking private, premium watch-party rooms: small, cinema-grade spaces designed for groups to watch content together. Positioned between home streaming and traditional movie theaters, neuk creates a new category of social entertainment centered around shared viewing.

Users browse nearby rooms, reserve by the hour, and arrive to a private, pre-configured cinema space designed for small groups. Upon entry, guests scan a QR code to check in, and their phones become remotes to control playback, volume, and browsing. Content is accessed through a room-based streaming interface, allowing groups to watch together without logging into personal accounts.

The experience prioritizes social connection over content itself, transforming passive watching into a shared, intentional activity. By removing friction around hosting, setup, and coordination, neuk makes group viewing effortless and repeatable.

Beyond the core experience, neuk introduces a scalable system layer: hourly room pricing, themed spaces, food and beverage upsells, and extensions. The platform positions shared watching as a bookable outing, similar to bowling, karaoke, or escape rooms.

neuk explores how physical environments and digital interfaces can combine to create a new social behavior, turning everyday streaming into a designed, premium, and social experience.
Nike Run Music App

Maika Sacerdote

Nike Run Music is a project developed to introduce a meaningful new feature to an existing app. I chose the Nike Run app because it is the tool I personally use to track my runs, and because of my strong interest in running, performance, and Nike as a brand.

Through research, I explored how music influences running behavior and discovered that rhythm and tempo can directly affect pace, endurance, and motivation. This insight led to the concept of integrating music more intentionally into the running experience—not just as background entertainment, but as an active performance tool.

The objective of this project was to increase motivation and engagement among runners by connecting music to movement. The feature allows users to create custom playlists based on their running goals, learn how music tempo (BPM) affects performance, and visualize how music aligns with their cadence during a run. By turning music into a measurable and responsive element, the experience supports both motivation and self-awareness.

In addition to designing the user experience, I developed a visual campaign to support the feature, using AI-generated imagery created with Midjourney. This allowed me to explore how the concept could live not only inside the app, but also as part of a broader brand narrative.

Mia Tran

Nook was designed to make it easier for people to find genuine connections and experiences in the city. It’s more than just an event-finding app, it’s a space for discovery, shared moments, and new friendships. Having moved between cities and countries, I’ve often felt how difficult it can be to build a sense of belonging, especially in a fast-paced place like New York. Through Nook, I wanted to create something that helps users find not only fun things to do, but also meaningful ways to feel part of a community wherever they are.

Parameter is a patient-facing genetic health app designed to reduce fragmentation across personal health data. It brings together daily health metrics, medical reports, and genetic information into one organized experience, helping users move away from disconnected tools and isolated records. Instead of simply showing numbers, Parameter uses AI-powered insights to reveal patterns over time, explain what results mean in clearer language, and support a more informed understanding of personal health. The goal is to make complex health information feel more connected, accessible, and useful for everyday decision-making.
Persistence of Color

Ali Salifov

This project explores the use of color across time, beginning as ideas in Josef Albers’ studio, expanding into the lived architectural space through Luis Barragán’s structures, and arriving at the current systems of digital interfaces.

In Interaction of Color, Josef Albers demonstrates how the same color can appear to shift depending on its surrounding context, lighting, and adjacency to other colors.

In Homage to an Homage of an Homage, Tamara Shopsin traces how Josef Albers’ knowledge of color translates beyond the painted square, through the architecture of Luis Barragán.

In Everyday Color Theory, Cortney Cassidy examines how color now operates as a functional system within digital interfaces, branding, and accessibility design.

By combining form and reference, this digital binding reflects on how visual language evolves through reuse and reinterpretation. Through spatial relationships and juxtaposition, color becomes a constant that changes as the viewer interacts with it.

Josef Albers’ ideas still persist because they are grounded in perception and remain applicable across the ever-changing technologies. His studies of color established a way of thinking that continues to shape how designers approach digital screens, accessibility, branding, and interaction today.

I initially wanted to build a tool that could recommend restaurants across all of New York City based on factors like mood, budget and location. After discussing the scope of the idea, I was encouraged to narrow my focus significantly either by cuisine or location because I had about 6 weeks to take the project from concept to a fully coded site in HTML, CSS and Javascript. I decided to narrow it down to Arabic cuisine which I chose because it’s what I know best and am most personally connected to. I curated my own dataset in a JSON file featuring 6 Arabic cuisines, and while there are many more that I could include, the constraints of the timeline made it necessary to be intentional. As a result, the experience essentially works seamlessly in the amount of time given. The user submits their preferences for cuisine type, price range, and borough and the app generates exactly one restaurant and one dish so that there is no scrolling or overwhelm. Along with the restaurant recommendation, the user gets the restaurant details, a photo of the dish, a description and directions.

Buyer Customization Feature for Depop

Depop, a second-hand shopping app, primarily supports two user flows: buying and selling. Over five weeks, I designed a new feature to enhance buyer customization and personalization. Through research—including UI analysis, user reviews, and three user interviews with Depop’s target audience (18-26-year-olds)—I identified a need for improved trust and customization.

Brainstorming with fellow designers led to three potential features: profile customization, an outfit generator, and search filter edits. I combined the Style Finder Quiz and Outfit Generator into a streamlined solution. The Style Finder Quiz, a five-step onboarding process, tailors shopping experiences based on users’ fashion preferences. The Outfit Generator then curates looks, linking users to relevant product listings. Additional features included editable filters, a shopping cart, and pinpointed posts that display real product listings within generated outfits.

User testing revealed key insights, such as the need for a faster generator experience and the option to skip the quiz. After refining the prototype and integrating feedback, I finalized the design in Figma, ensuring alignment with Depop’s brand mission of making fashion more circular.

Future improvements include further exploring buyer-seller trust, refining edge cases, and enhancing inclusivity in the generator feature. If revisited, I’d conduct additional low-fidelity explorations, introduce animated elements, and incorporate seller perspectives. This project underscores the value of personalization in secondhand shopping, bridging the gap between user preferences and seamless discovery.
Crafted Plates: A Meal Planning System

Crafted Plates is a modular meal-planning system designed for real life. It meets users where they are, whether that’s with a stocked pantry or limited ingredients, and helps them plan meals with what they already have. By combining pantry awareness, AI-based recipe suggestions, and a guided cooking experience, Crafted Plates reduces the daily friction of “what should I cook today?”

The system begins by understanding available ingredients, offering meal cards that are generated contextually. Whether it’s ingredients about to expire, personal dietary preferences, or limited prep time, suggestions are adapted accordingly.

Each part of the experience is designed to feel like a quiet, supportive companion in the kitchen. From warm, swipe-able meal cards to a clear, timer-integrated cook mode, every touchpoint has been optimized for low cognitive load, especially for users navigating fatigue or busy schedules.

Crafted Plates isn’t just about planning meals, it’s about making planning itself feel intuitive, forgiving, and even enjoyable.

What makes it stand apart is its sensitivity to real-world constraints and its belief that even the smallest nudge, like showing one good recipe instead of many, can bring calm to the everyday chaos of home cooking.

Crosstown is a social discovery app designed to help New York City residents—especially newcomers—build connections while exploring the city. Moving to NYC can be overwhelming, and finding like-minded people to share experiences with isn’t always easy. Crosstown bridges that gap by matching users based on shared interests, favorite activities, and availability, making it effortless to meet new friends and experience the city together.

Whether you’re looking for a food tour in Queens, a buddy to check out an art exhibit in Chelsea, or a casual park hangout in Brooklyn, Crosstown helps you find people who want to do the same. The app curates personalized activity suggestions and group outings, ensuring that every meetup is organic and engaging. With flexible matching options—ranging from one-on-one connections to larger group settings—Crosstown adapts to different social preferences and comfort levels.

More than just an event-finding platform, Crosstown is about fostering community. It’s a way for longtime New Yorkers to share their favorite hidden spots with newcomers and for recent arrivals to immerse themselves in the city’s culture. By facilitating meaningful interactions, the app transforms the vastness of NYC into something more intimate, welcoming, and easy to navigate.

Descend is a mobile application that simplifies dive planning with a comprehensive, location based directory of dive centers. Divers can explore sites based on factors such as visibility, difficulty, and biodiversity, ensuring a safer and more seamless experience, whether they’re beginners or seasoned explorers. The app also allows new or returning divers to find dive centers where they can get certified or continue advancing through certification levels.

Beyond discovering dive spots, Descend helps divers log their dives, share experiences, and connect with the diving community. The app streamlines equipment rentals and dive bookings, making trip planning effortless. Personalized dive recommendations based on past experiences ensure each dive is both memorable and tailored to the user’s preferences.

By combining trusted site information, community insights, and smart trip planning, Descend makes scuba diving and underwater exploration more accessible and enjoyable.
Error as Aesthetic

Error as Aesthetic explores the beauty of digital glitches—those unexpected pixel distortions that occur when a computer malfunctions. Drawing inspiration from early screen errors and system crashes, the site creates an immersive visual experience that turns technical failure into aesthetic expression.

Built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and designed in Figma, the website pulls content from Are.na channel as its API. It organizes the content into five categories—image, quote, link, text, and audio—each represented by a primary RGB color. These colorful blocks resemble tiny screen pixels, scattered randomly across the interface.

The experience begins with a retro Windows 95-style popup that introduces the theme. A classic Windows wallpaper serves as the background image, reinforcing the nostalgic digital mood. Every 20 seconds, the screen briefly goes black—an intentional interruption meant to simulate the feeling of a system error and immerse users in the aesthetic of malfunction.
Gymmy: Find Your Ideal Gym

While searching for the ideal gym in my area, I realized a major gap in the fitness world: there was no single platform that allowed users to easily compare gyms side by side. Most gym websites looked and felt the same, forcing users to jump from one site to another just to gather basic information.

Gymmy is designed to change that.

This all-in-one gym platform offers more than just location and pricing—it brings together fitness, wellness, and community in one visually compelling and user-friendly experience. With Gymmy, users can explore various gyms, discover wellness resources, and connect with a like-minded fitness community—all from one place.

Unlike traditional gym websites, Gymmy features a fresh, unique structure built to keep users engaged. The platform offers smooth navigation, clean design, and interactive elements that make finding the right gym not just easier—but enjoyable.

My goal is to create a vibrant, intuitive platform where everything revolves around the gym lifestyle. Whether users are beginners or seasoned athletes, Gymmy offers a seamless experience to explore, compare, and connect.

In Habit Rabbit, users complete daily tasks to earn carrots, which represent progress and can be redeemed for real-life rewards like coffee vouchers and discount coupons. To stay motivated and accountable, users can join photo proof challenges with friends, sharing snapshots of their habit journey while cheering each other on.

The app encourages not just tracking habits, but sticking with them—through small daily check-ins, visual progress, and a warm, supportive community. A cozy, bunny-themed interface brings lightness and fun to the process, reminding users that everyone has their own pace, but showing up every day is what counts.

Whether you’re building new routines or hopping back in like our determined rabbit, Habit Rabbit turns everyday habits into a journey worth celebrating.
Hua: A Personalized and Purposeful Flower-Booking Experience

Hua is a flower-booking platform designed for a seamless and personalized shopping experience. Users can browse seasonal collections, explore flowers by color, and easily place orders with a smooth checkout process.

Beyond traditional flower ordering, Hua offers the Create Your Own Bouquet feature, allowing customers to design unique floral arrangements with real-time previews. Additionally, the Monthly Flower initiative donates a portion of proceeds from featured flowers to charitable causes, turning every purchase into an opportunity to give back.

By combining thoughtful design with meaningful interactions, hua transforms the way people experience flowers—making the process effortless, creative, and socially impactful.
Leadership in Action: A Scenario-Based Challenge

This interactive, scenario-based leadership project is designed to help users explore and reflect on their unique leadership style through choice-driven storytelling. It responds to a common problem in leadership education: traditional exercises often feel abstract, rigid, or too theoretical, leaving learners disengaged or unsure how to apply concepts in real-life situations.

To address this, the project offers a dynamic and personalized experience. Users begin by choosing a scenario that aligns with their interests such as team conflict, crisis management, or creative collaboration giving them greater autonomy and relevance throughout the experience. This freedom to select their path enhances engagement and ownership, allowing learners to relate more deeply to the challenges presented.

Within each scenario, users face decision points that mirror real-world leadership dilemmas. Each choice influences how the story unfolds and ultimately shapes their leadership outcome. Rather than offering right or wrong answers, the tool encourages critical thinking and reflection. At the end, users receive a final outcome tied to their decisions, along with guiding questions that help them analyze their leadership tendencies and consider how they might grow.

This project transforms passive learning into an active, gamified process that fosters better retention, self-awareness, and application of leadership concepts. It’s especially effective for students and emerging professionals seeking a hands-on, exploratory approach to leadership. After researching the behavior and pain points of Netflix users, I found a common problem: people often spend too much time scrolling through content, unsure of what to watch. With endless options and no clear direction, viewers feel overwhelmed—
especially when they just want something that matches their current mood.

This led to the idea of Moodsy—an AI-powered mood matcher that helps users pick content based on how they feel. Whether you’re happy, sad, drained, or just want something exciting, Moodsy tunes into your emotions and curates a personalized watchlist in seconds.

We explored several solutions—from genre filters to friend recommendations and even content based on current watchlists—but nothing felt as engaging or relevant as a mood-based approach. Moodsy stood out as the most intuitive, fun, and emotionally connected option.

On the design side, I was inspired by how emotions are often associated with colors. This led to the creation of a playful, color-driven UI using a mood wheel—making the experience both visual and interactive.

Designing with AI in mind was also a key part of this project. With AI becoming an essential trend, I focused on building a feature that learns from user feedback. By allowing users to rate or adjust recommendations, Moodsy improves over time—generating even more accurate and personalized watchlists.
MOVA: Find Your Run Club, Your Way

By analyzing user preferences, it suggests relevant upcoming shows, making discovery effortless. The built-in countdown feature keeps users informed about approaching exhibition end dates, helping them plan visits in advance. This way art lovers can stay connected to the cultural world without the hassle of scattered notes and forgotten dates.
Perfect Fragrance: Helping You Find the Right Perfume

As the fragrance industry continues to grow, one of the biggest challenges of online fragrance shopping remains the inability to smell scents firsthand. Most existing platforms simply list fragrance notes without capturing the story, emotion, or sensory experience behind each scent, making it difficult for buyers to find one that truly resonates with them.

To bridge this gap, Perfect Fragrance introduces a multi-sensory approach, using visual and auditory elements to bring scents to life. Additionally, it features a quick questionnaire that tailors fragrance recommendations based on users’ personal preferences, creating a more intuitive and immersive shopping experience.
Rendered Realities: A Collection of 3D Art

Rendered Realities is a responsive website that curates and explores a collection of 3D digital artworks sourced entirely from Are.na. Designed and developed from scratch using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the site functions as both an archive and a spatial interface, showcasing how digital form and dimensionality can intersect within a browser-based environment. The project began with a thematic interest in 3D design as both a visual language and a conceptual lens. Using Are.na’s API, I gathered over thirty pieces of media—ranging from rendered sculptures and virtual environments to procedural animations and speculative objects.

These works, created by different artists and studios, are unified by their ability to simulate, distort, or reflect reality through digital space. The organizing principle of the site emerges through a grid-based interface that emphasizes material, scale, and interactivity. Users can hover, filter, and explore connections between works that might otherwise exist in isolation. The site itself becomes a kind of rendered space—inviting users to consider the tension between representation and reality, and the role interface plays in shaping meaning.

Built as part of a course exploring the integration of media, content management systems, and custom web development, this project reflects my interest in coding as a design practice. Rendered Realities is not just a website—it’s a proposition for how collections of digital culture can be recontextualized through intentional systems of navigation, structure, and interface.

Table for All

It all started with a dinner plan. My friend, a wheelchair user, hesitated when I suggested a new restaurant. “What if there’s no ramp? What if the tables are too close together?” At the same time, my 67-year-old mother struggles with blurry vision and small text on apps. Something as simple as booking a table shouldn’t be stressful, yet for millions of seniors and people with disabilities, it often is.

In the U.S., 57 million people live with disabilities, yet 90% of websites remain inaccessible. Many avoid dining out due to uncertainty about seating, accessibility, and navigation. Through interviews, I heard their concerns, small text is hard to read, elevators and restrooms need to be nearby, and the wrong seating can cause discomfort.

With these insights, I created Table for All, a mobile app that simplifies restaurant reservations for seniors and wheelchair users. It offers adjustable font sizes, larger buttons, text-to-speech functionality, and a table selection tool with a restaurant map highlighting entrances, elevators, and restrooms. Users can also see real images of the space and filter seating options based on their needs.

By reducing uncertainty and improving accessibility, Table for All turns dining out from a challenge into a welcoming experience. More than just an app, it’s a step toward making restaurants truly inclusive for everyone.

The goal was to evoke a sense of community through a digital forum. I drew inspiration from the idea of a gathering place, similar to an old village square or community house. The problem arose from the observation that people struggle to meet others within their community or to get involved locally. I wanted to create a digital space for people to discover what was happening around them, and get involved. I explored how we can create a sense of community in a city environment, where our repeated interaction with others is limited.

For this project, we went through a regimented process to create a product, from problem discovery to high-fidelity prototypes. We interviewed, sketched, tested, and designed apps around the topic of our choosing. My main issue was grappling with the concept of how to create lasting connections with other people. I solved this through attempting to showcase local happenings, giving people the option to attend, meet, and connect in person and on the app.
“Challenges” Feature for AllTrails

Wanting to contribute meaningfully, I introduced AllTrails Challenges, a feature that transforms hikes into exciting, goal-driven adventures. Instead of simply choosing trails, people can set personal challenges, like hiking 50 miles in a month or exploring eco-friendly routes that encourage sustainable outdoor habits.

These challenges go beyond fitness goals; they create motivation, a sense of purpose, and a stronger connection with nature. By offering structured objectives, AllTrails Challenges encourages people to step outside more often, forming lasting hiking habits. Beyond individual achievement, this feature fosters a sense of community, allowing users to track progress, share milestones, and inspire others.

Additionally, challenges align with AllTrails’ sustainability mission by promoting responsible hiking practices, such as minimizing environmental impact and discovering lesser-known trails. More than just an engagement tool, AllTrails Challenges enhances the joy of discovery, ensuring every hike is not just another walk but a meaningful adventure—one that deepens appreciation for the outdoors and encourages exploration in a sustainable way.
“Hotlists” Feature for Resy

Resy, owned by AMEX, already makes it easy to discover and book restaurants. But in a city like New York, where demand constantly outpaces supply, I saw an opportunity to reframe how people approach reservations. Getting into a hot new restaurant here can feel like an Olympic sport. As a frequent Resy user, I noticed something: New Yorkers cared more about where they were eating than when. They were overjoyed to grab a 5 PM dinner if it meant getting into the newest, buzziest spot.

This mindset inspired The Resy Hotlist—a feature that prioritizes the restaurant over the reservation time. Instead of setting alerts for specific dates, users can now create up to five personalized lists and receive real-time notifications when a table opens within a 14-day window, thanks to live cancellation alerts.

"New Yorkers are just different when it comes to booking restaurants. They’re on top of it like it’s their second job—it’s wild,” said Carly, 25, one of my research participants. I interviewed diners aged 23–37 who go out frequently and view food as a core part of their social life.

Designing Hotlists meant introducing a new, intuitive flow while staying true to Resy’s brand—using Beatrice Bold for headers, GT America Standard for body text, and clean large/small button styles. On the profile page, users can tap the three dots to open a modal and adjust guest count (not time). To introduce the feature, a Resy-style notification leads to “What’s Hotlist?”—a playful nod to “What’s Notify?”
“Jukebox” Feature for Spotify

Spotify is a beloved music streaming app known for it’s large music library, generated playlists, and popular social media campaigns. It serves as the go-to place for people to curate their own music library, share music with friends, or discover something new—sort of. In this project, I explored how Spotify has lessened its focus and retention between new music discovery and long time users of the platform. I aimed to design a new feature that brought back building playlists with a twist. Instead of users feeling discouraged in their search for new music or disappointed in repetitive playlists, I implemented functionalities that prioritized a users mood and preferences into a playlist builder centered around unheard of music. No repeats, no long scrolling through lists, no more wasting time. This new feature is positioned to encourage listeners to get out of their familiar listening habits and use Spotify to develop a love for music exploration. I really enjoyed hearing from current users about their experience using Spotify as well as working within its current design system to create a new feature that would feel right at home.
“Make a Plan” and “Reservation” Features for the Yelp App

Users can create personalized schedules for upcoming events, incorporating restaurants, and attractions with specified dates and times for better organization. The collaborative planning aspect lets users invite friends and family to get information about the restaurant. Access to Yelp’s extensive database of reviews and ratings helps users make informed choices, while the interactive map integration simplifies route planning with distance and travel time calculations. Additionally, the feature allows for syncing local events with tailored notifications, enabling users to make reservations directly through the app. Users can easily share their schedules on social media or send them to friends, and they can publish their favorite plans for the community to explore. Overall, the “Make a Plan” feature saves time, enhances social interactions, and encourages the exploration of new venues, transforming Yelp into a comprehensive meal planning tool for creating memorable experiences.
“Mirror” Extension for Robinhood

Known for commission-free trades and a clean user interface, Robinhood has attracted millions of users, from beginners exploring their first trades to seasoned investors managing diverse portfolios.

Robinhood Mirror builds on this foundation by introducing a more personalized and community-driven experience, empowering users to invest with confidence and connection. The project centers around three core enhancements: a more personalized onboarding flow, investor discovery, and Mirror Trading.

The new onboarding experience guides users through tailored questions to assess their investing knowledge, risk tolerance, and preferences. This helps categorize users into investor profiles, ensuring they receive content, recommendations, and tools that match their goals, making the app feel smarter and more intuitive from the start.

The standout feature, Mirror Trading, allows users to automatically mirror the trades of experienced investors. With full control over asset allocation and risk settings, users can align their portfolios with strategies they admire, turning Robinhood into a more educational and supportive investing platform.

Overall, Robinhood Mirror enhances the original app by adding guidance, transparency, and community, transforming investing from a solo journey into a more collaborative experience.

“Templates” Feature for Apple Notes

I focused on enhancing Apple Notes by introducing a much-needed Templates feature. While Apple Notes is widely used for its clean interface and seamless integration across Apple devices, many users—especially power users—turn to competitor note-taking apps for more advanced capabilities.

Through user research and testing, I discovered a common gap: users frequently create similar types of notes (like meeting summaries, class outlines, or daily journals) but have no way to streamline that process within Apple Notes. This results in repetitive manual formatting and a lack of consistency.

Templates feature allows users to create, save, and reuse structured note formats. Accessible from the toolbar, users can choose from default templates or build their own with headings, checklists, and formatting presets. This addition maintains Apple Notes’ minimalist design philosophy while offering more efficiency and personalization for everyday workflows.

By addressing the needs of users who crave speed, structure, and consistency, the Templates feature elevates Apple Notes to better serve both casual and advanced users—without sacrificing its simplicity.

Through deep user research, three key pain points were identified and addressed: inadequate menu information leading to unmet expectations, unnecessary server communication, and awkwardness during bill splitting. Alfred’s features include a comprehensive menu system with real-time images, full control in dish customizations, streamlined server communication, easy bill splitting, and different dining modes, all accessible at the touch of a finger. Groovy, an introverted diner allergic to eggs, testifies to Alfred’s success in providing control and convenience. Alfred serves as a guide, facilitating interactions seamlessly and allowing restaurants to maintain their identity within the platform with customizable branding options as well.

Users also have the opportunity to voice their opinion, by contributing to the ‘user bias review’. Byline’s primary goal is to ‘share different perspectives’ on important stories, to help fight media bias, and to allow users to form their own perspectives.

As an international student from Taiwan, I often face challenges in finding hometown goods in New York due to various constraints. Therefore, I decided to make “foreign goods” the theme of my project. Through multiple user interviews during the design process, I ultimately focused on ‘How might we generate a new community interaction model to ease the pressure of assigning shopping tasks on people?’ Through iterations from low-fi to hi-fi prototypes, I optimized the design through several rounds and finally developed this digital product. In Genie, users can submit requests for foreign products they wish to purchase, entrusting them to travelers visiting the respective locations. They can also provide a certain level of reward to the travelers, helping them save on travel expenses.
